‘Covey’ is a beautiful, weeping variety of Cercis canadensis (Redbud) that we are using to frame the entrance to Veteran Memorials Circle Native Plant Garden. Straight species of redbuds have an upright habit with a lovely, mounded canopy that sports branches with heart-shaped leaves. Most Cercis canadensis grow up to 20 - 30 ft and weeping varieties like the ‘Covey’ variety tend not to grow higher than 8 – 10 feet.

Cercis canadensis (Redbud) is a wonderful, ornamental addition to any garden where space is limited or the spot calls for a smaller tree. The trees are one of the first plants to flower in early spring providing much-needed nectar to the bees who emerge early after a long winter. Depending on variety, flowers range from pink to white but most varieties sport lovely pink-lavender flowers.
