Colors of October

As beautiful and stunning as the fall colors of leaves turning on trees, there is also much to see closer to the ground. Autumn and the cooler weather brings striking colors to native perennials. Colors that range from deep purple and burgandy to striking reds and vivid yellows are all around if you have a variety of native plants in your garden. You can find a multitude of colors in native plants such as: Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium), Beardtongue (Penstemon digitalis), Bluestar (Amsonia hubrichii), Aromatic Aster (Symphyotrichum oblongifolium), Goldenrod (Solidago rugosa), Highbush Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum), Winterberry (Ilex verticillata), Pink Muhly Grass (Muhlenbergia capillaris), Smooth Witherod (Viburnam nudum) and so many more.

All the photos above were taken in the first and second week of October of this year.
